The nonsense of helmet laws

IN NEW SOUTH WALES

You don't need a helmet if you're:
* riding a horse
or
* a paying passenger on a 3 or 4 wheeled bicycle

BUT

You do need a helmet if you're:
* riding a bicycle
and/or
* a non-paying passenger on a 3 or 4 wheeled bicycle

IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA

You don't need a helmet if you're:
* of the sikh religion

BUT

You do need a helmet if you're:
* an aetheist

  1. In Tasmania you need to be wearing both helmets at once.

  2. How about us Pastafarians?

    We need to wear a pirate hat to counter global warming.

  3. Sue, have you ever contacted some of the newer bike retailers in Australia (like Gazelle: http://www.gazellebicycles.com.au/menu/bicycles-as-transport.html) or Velorbis who do the gorgeous upright bike, to ask them if they can assist in any way with the lobbying efforts? Just a thought...

  4. You've probably seen this, but I enjoyed reading this blog entry by a guy from San Francisco: http://www.ski-epic.com/amsterdam_bicycles/

    Scroll down to read his amusing blurb about no-one wearing helmet laws and then click on his rant about helmet wearing (in this instance referring to ski helmets but the gist is the same). He makes some interesting observations.
