Be careful riding bikes & off to war with you

(City To Surf 2014 revellers, Newtown)

If we can afford to send our women and men to war then we can afford to lighten up with bicycle helmet laws because even Dunc can't argue that Australia's all about protecting its citizens when you consider the latest directive from TeamAustralia's Chief.

Seriously once we start despatching troops to kill and be killed, Occupation Health and Safety (OH&S) is exposed for the smoke and mirrors exercise that it is.

After all, how can deliberately sending the nation's citizens to war and deliberately putting them in the way of harm fit with the normal safety-paranoid parameters of a nation that holds bicycle helmet law so dear to its heart?

In my opinion, the wanton killing of others & our own is dangerous and ought to be a crime ...

... not the 'not-wearing-a-bicycle-helmet' when sitting on a bicycle.

Shame on you, Australian politicians, and just remember ... you do not send our children to their potential deaths and destruction in my name.

  1. PM Aboott would have you believe that all oz service men & women deployed to war zones would be safe and sound as they will all be wearing bicycle helmets.

  2. Sorry to post this here Sue, but I thought commenting on your most recent post would have the best chance for you to see this. I am having trouble finding your email address, or do you not give it out publicly? I just wanted to tell you about something that happened to me in Adelaide regarding bicycle helmets, but I don't think the comment section is the place for it.

  3. Hi Sue!

Found another piece about the "special friendship" between Tony Abbott and Steven Harper:

I have no desire to continue living in a state or country with an adult bicycle helmet law. I would prefer no helmet laws for children and motorcycles.

  5. Bicycle helmet laws reduce the quality of life in many ways and don't improve safety.

  6. And really vying for the planet-killer championship title here! http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/oct/13/tony-abbott-says-coal-is-good-for-humanity-while-opening-mine

Oh, Harper does the same about the Alberta tar sands...

Pushbike helmet laws reduce the number of people cycling, and leads to less demand for better, safer conditions for cycling. This is bad for public health because of a lack of exercise and a huge increase in obesity related diseases. It is bad for the environment, due to an increase in pollution, noise and congestion from motor vehicles. Compulsory bicycle helmet laws reduce the quality of life. There have been no benefits from mandatory helmet laws.

Bicycle helmet laws make bike share schemes unworkable, causing them to fail, like the one in Auckland. Pushbike helmet laws have caused bike share schemes in Melbourne and Brisbane to perform poorly. Their performance is less than 10 percent compared to bike share schemes in countries and states without a helmet law. The only reason these bike share schemes survive is because they are funded by the taxpayer or ratepayer.

Pushbike helmet laws have put a curse on Australia and New Zealand.
It’s time we got rid of this evil law that’s negative in every way.
I want a return to democracy, freedom and civil liberty.
No more helmet gestapo or nazis.
    SCRAP THIS EVIL LAW!

Bike share schemes are very safe in countries or states without a pushbike helmet law.
Bicycle helmet laws exist because of two lies:
    1: Cycling is dangerous.
2: Bicycle helmets make it safe.

The mandatory bicycle helmet laws in Australia and New Zealand have been a tremendous victory for the FATHER OF LIES over the last 20 years.
Pushbike helmet laws have been a political success but they are an ABJECT FAILURE in every other way. SCRAP THIS EVIL LAW!

Bicycle helmet laws discourage the safest cyclists.
